Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964. She is an American politician. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice presidency and the highest ranking female official in U.S history. As a member of the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for reforms to healthcare and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal, the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. Her name is well-known due to her direct questioning of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
